Laptop for multitrack recording

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum.
I am looking for a lap top computer and was doing some research and came across this forum.

I am needing a windows based laptop with at least a gig of ram, an 80 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, 2.0 pentium M, a dl multi format DVD reader and writer, wireless a/b/g (it would be nice
if it has blue tooth but not critical), multiple USB ports and a fire wire port.

The display does not have to be big; 12 or 13 inches would be OK if bigger it would still be OK.

It would be more a desktop replacement laptop so I am prepared for something over 6LBS.
It would be used for multitrack music recording and also some everyday computer task like Internet, email, word processing, and so on. .

Not sure whether to go with Windows xp home or Pro. Which one would be better for music recording?

I am looking at customized laptops. I have been looking at Asus based laptops and IBM thinkpads. However, I have not been able to find the configuration with IBM that would satisfy my specifications and also within my budget. I have been able to find some Asus configurations that are within my budget. My budget is around $1500-1600.

With an Asus motherboard, should I be OK for music multitrack recording?

Thanks for any and all help on this matter.

Asus would be a fine choice, I id take that over a thinkpad any time...

as fra as the home/pro thing goes, I'd go with pro...
