i believe i saw a filter performance on MTV once. and their guitarist had a wall of mesa boogie cabinets and rectifier head. you can tell this. buy the industrial diamond grill in the front of the amp. also ive heard many new hard rock/metal new school rock bands use the mesa boogie triple rectifier to get their smooth low heavy end distortion. if you have heard and analyzed these amps long enough you can tell if they are being used on a recording. as For NIN they might use some kind of MIDI distortion. certainly doesnt sound like something out of an analog amp.

I believe there might be a gear list on the NIN or Trent's site. As far as Filter goes, I think he is playing pretty straight overdrive. A lot of the sound come's from the pickup's they might be using on a certain guitar.

well I do know they both use Les PAuls , and Trent uses Marshall , Gibson , digitech ( what prossesor I have no idea) and one of the many guitar players uses a POD and one uses a J station . I've just been board and am looking for sites that list the equipment different bands and studio's use because I like the way a few things sound . it hard to pass the time in Uzbekistan when there is nothing to do and you're so close to comming home .

Speaking of the POD. If you go to the Line6 site. They have a link to a part of their site that is for patch exchange's and such. I have a couple posted there, and I know I have gotten a few very good one's from there. I think there is actually a section for NIN stuff, but don't quote me on that.
