Tascam FW1804 Firewire Audio Interface (with MIDI)

I'm brand new at this and looking for a way to record using my Toshiba Laptop by firewire doing just guitar, keyboard and vocals. I will be using Adobe Audition 1.5. If I get the Tascam FW1804 Firewire unit will I still need a audio card, such as a PCM type or is the tascam unit also the sound module?

Really appreciate your help.

Dana

The tascam is the sound card. One firewire connection and you're rockin'.

dana, welcome to HRC.

CS is correct, hook up the firewire and your in bussiness.

One small word of caution though. There have been several users here and elswhere having majof problems with the FW1804 and Adobe Audition together. There have also been those who have gotten it to work for them. It just seems it is mostly tied to the hardware of the laptop itself and the way XP is set up on the computer being used.

My first word of advice would be to make sure Audition is fully updated and that you go to Tascams website and download the most current drivers and install them before you even try using the unit.

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks Noize,
I was planning to upgrade to Audition 2 anyway. I've learned already, to go hunt for the newest drivers, but I appreciate the heads up
.
Not bad mouthing them at all, but I've used Pinnacle video software before and it amazes me than when you buy it and get it home, the first time you try to run it, it will imediately take you to the web page and install 3 or 4 updates. It's nice that they keep it up but it also leads me to believe that they put it on the market too soon before it's finished.
Sorry to any Pinnacle fans or employees out there. Just talkin'...

I dunno, Pinnacle does have it's issues, but once you get it all patched and updated, it's great software...

Oh, and it seems any software I buy has a slew of updates available when I get it, it is frustrating.

DB, you are definately correct, it is pretty good software.

I was just pickin'. Just did a complete reformat hard drive and reinstall of Windows XP for a friend. By the time I got done downloading all of the windows updates and installed pinnacle, I thought I was going crazy. Don't think I'll volunteer to do that again for anyone.

Cant say I blame you dana, I just did a complete redo of my boys box and went through the same thing. Wasted almost a complete day doing nothing but searching out hardware and software updates and such. And XP itself went on for at least an hour downloading updates and such even though it was the SP2 release.

But I do so agree with almost all software now its the same. By the time we get the package it allready has updates coming out.
