spdif too hot?

i'm runnin' a mackie DB8 to a RME and monitor with SPDIF at work, and also my home setup's got an aardvark q-10, and on both interfaces, it seems the spdif input to my interfaces on playback is always a good 10db's too hot. does anyone know what's causing it? as far as i can tell, both are locked and opperating fine, but i've gotta turn my master output inside my daw down to keep the clipping under control....BUT, if i route the same tracks to an analog in on my interface, i get perfectly fine levels. what gives?

thanks all

Maybe you're running all your other outputs at semi pro and your spdif at pro?

Or you might want to change your spdif levels on output to consumer/semi pro (Aardvark: Advanced - General tab)

yeah i thought i had everything set to pro...but i havn't really tested the difference between the two....OOooOoOO also on a related subject, my meters on the aardvark mixer read totally lower levels then when i arm a track in Sonar....i always go by the sonar levels when tracking...but my aardvark will be sayin' i'm peaking at say -16db, but in sonar i'm reading peaks around -4 or so.....

sup wit dat?!

isn't the pro/semi pro a +4/-10 difference? or something like that?

yeah it is but i would think digital is digital and therefore there would be no need to have that choice, both on the aardvark, and the DB8 there is a spidf option for pro and consumer....gosh my head hurts now, i'm gonna do some tests here and see what's up.

Yeah, see that is the same conundrum my mind has been stuck in while starting and stopping to respond to this question all day...the digital signal should, in theory be uneffected...but, well, I dunno...I was thinking the -10/+4, but then thinking "well, it's digital, so who cares"...
