What a dull Super Bowl

If you are a Pittsburgh fan, yes, it was the most exciting game ever I am sure. I was glad Pitts won, wasn't cheering for them, but I was cheering for Jerome Bettis...

That said, the 1st half was the ugliest football I have seen all season, which should say something, as I am a Vikings fan...

The commercials sucked ***, the officiating wasn't that great...the only thing I think was "memorable" at all was the awesome gadget play Pitts pulled off, that was cool...oh, and Bill Cowher actually smiled too, that was weird...

I thought the first half commercials were pretty good... the officiating was pretty bad in some places... the seahawks playing was worse... and the musical performances were awful...especially stevie wonders pregame... I think we learned during the national anthem to never let a studio artist sing live... half time was pretty boring the mix made it worse.... IMO the stage was just waaayyy too big for a one band show and the end pyro was weak.

Agreed...I didn't see Stevie, but the national anthem SUCKED...the Stones I enjoyed more than most half-time shows.

The only commercial I really liked was the caveman FedEx commercial.

I liked "the magic fridge" and "hiding beer at office" along with the two "don't judge too quickly" and the one with the surfers truck being washed around in the tide was pretty good.

Yeah, I watched the superbowl. It's my one game/year that I'll sit all the way through (most of the time, didn't last year...lol). I said "I smell interception" about 5 seconds before the pitt's threw the ball to that seahawks fellow who ran it most of the way back.

Lousy officiating. Horrible halftime show (when 'ol Mick showed us his tummy, we all averted our eyes). Lousy football during the first half... yeah. Waste of my time. Granted, the "don't judge too quickly" airline commercial was hilarious!

I still watch the game itself more than all the hoopla surrounding it. I didn't really watch any pregame stuff, avoided the entertainment like the plague, and spent commercial breaks either getting beer, getting rid of beer, asking for a beer, thinking about beer, or actually drinking beer.

Not the fastest-paced game ever, I'll agree. Both teams seemed scared to death of doing something wrong in the first half. At least they opened up a bit in the 2nd half and started playing their games instead of the uber-conservative games they opened up with.

I still watched every play and enjoyed it. Its the last game of the season so I'm gonna watch it and I'm gonna like it every year! No more football...oh no! It can't be! Aaaaaaaah!

I can't belive I got here before Fortymile!
Well.....
1. Neither team played very exciting football.
2. Officiating was horrible. However, for once it wasn't Pittsburgh being the receipients of unfair officiating.
3. Much as I hate to say it, I think Hines Ward being made MVP was a bit of a cop out. Who really did stand out? Nobody. Hines dropped some biggies in the first half.
4. Antwaan Randle El's trick-play-reverse-deep-pass was better than any thrown by Roethlisberger all day.
5. Good ol' Bus.
6. Three "good" plays in the game. Willie Parker's 75 yard run, the above mentioned trick play, and the Seahawks TD. Other than that, all defense.
7. One for the thumb.

Oh, cool thing:
Brought in my patio furniture (very comfortable, an d reclining), so I had two rows of seating in my living room (almost movie theatre like) with my leather 3piece suite included. Ten adults, and two kids. 37" LCD flat screen on the wall, digital sound and picture, and everyone had a comfortable seat and a good view. House full of Teal though.....Very loud.
Beer, chips, hot dogs. I love superbowl for that!

I agree with TallChap, where is forty? I was actually kinda holding off and waiting for him to start a superbowl thread, but he didn't show up and I couldn't wait.

Hehehe, you bet dB. I was in the mood for some debauchery and boy did I get it!

I woke up in the middle of the night so parched and dehydrated from the beer and all of the fried food that I had to gulp down a couple glasses of water to get back to sleep. And the lower digestive system was pretty mad at me this morning as well...oh why do jalapeno poppers have to taste so good?

Saturday was my eating and drinking night, for the UFC fights, Sunday I went to visit my folks, watched a bit of the game with my dad and mom, girls came along, went home and relaxed watching the rest with the family...

It was nice having it start at around 5PM (CST) so it ended at a decent hour, still got to bed and woke up OK this morning...

That's funny... All of the commercials were about beer, too... You might have liked to see them ;)

hehe well I did catch a few of them. Anheuser-Busch must have spent a fortune on advertising with all of the Bud/Bud Light commercials I saw. Those were about the only ones I remember seeing

here i am. i have been watching ESPN a lot, and i went out last night. there were about 8 or 9 fully decked out steelers fans in the bar with game jerseys, terrible towels, and noise makers.

i paced for most of the game. alternating between cold coffee and beer. when the game was over, i felt completely hollow, because MY storyline was roethlisberger. and he didnt show up.

i dont blame him for being completely nervous. what he's been doing ever since entering the league has been magical. i didnt know how someone could win so consistently and still hold himself together, all the way through the playoffs, with all the attention around him building and building. i am kind of glad the team won pretty much without him. because the next time he gets to the super bowl, there wont be pressure on him. mission accomplished already. no jinx to overcome in coming years. no standard to live up to. hopefully it will translate to relaxation.

with the officiating, i disagree that the game was handed to seattle. everything appears magnified in a game like this.

specifically, i think the roethlisberger touchdown DID break the plane. you can see it when he's up high, near his apex. after that, the angle is such that no further judgment is possible. therefore, the system works. without evidence on tape, the refs had to let the ruling stand.

the hasselbeck blocking penalty was bogus.

the pass interference call on seattle in the end zone seems a judgment call. if you push someone when youre alone in the end zone, you run the risk of interference. he did put his hands on the defender. i even see him using the defender as leverage to go off in the other direction, if anything.

the holding call on seattle, i dont know what to make of it. guy had his arm around the other guy's neck. so, i dont know. this is one i dont have an opinion on. i dont know what the rule is for this.

seattle was dominant offenssively. they were playing better football. all those hasselback completions. no first downs for the steelers in a long time, etc. but they didnt seem to make plays when it mattered. like those two passes to receivers, both of which ended with the receiver catching the ball while out of bounds.

i feel strange about this game. it is not what i expected.

the magic fridge commercial made me laugh out loud.

oh yeah so i guess my conclusion about the officiating is that i HATE that there are questions about it. in that sense, it was less than perfect. i agree that it was not that great. but at the same time i cannot go so far as to say the game was handed to pittsburgh.

for me, the playoffs was where pitt really showed what they were made of. thankfully, this strange, hollow win guarantees that that playoff run, at least, will go down in history.

Yep, Steelers won. I now hold a record for the Co. football pool that will probably never be beaten. At least in my lifetime.

And yes football season is over. But alas, never a dull moment.

Now I am off to our Fantasy Nascar league. I pick third, and if Dale Jr. is allready gone which I am sure he will be, my secret weapon is going to be Martin Truex Jr..

Blessed are the Cheesemakers...

Hey guys,

Yes, the game was pretty boring. The announcers even sounded bored during the most exciting play, the Randal El (hopefully future Bear) pass. Also, I think that the NFL rulebook must be rewritten. The rules are way too confusing, and at times seem to be contrdictory to the spirit of the game. My 2 cents on the goalline call - touchdown. Barely.

As for the commercials...
My funniest ones: The streaking sheep, FedEx caveman.

The most original: the Bud? one with the people flipping the cards in the stadium. I have never seen that before.

The best commercial (in terms of why you make commercials in the first place): GoDaddy. The commercial actually wasn't very good, but at least 8 people in my office went to their website today to "see more". That is effective advertising.

The worst ones were the Diet Pepsi ads. Horrible. And worse yet - not funny.

I'll just quickly list some thoughts of my own- 1.-That was Aaron Neville singing the anthem(yeah- it was pretty bad, for him) 2.- That "boring" 1st half was alot of great defense and no one getting blown out. That's good football. 3.- I'm AMAZED that Randle El was even able to play after that shot in the back. I thought the stretcher was coming out. 4.- The caveman Fedx ad was good. You knew he was gonna kick that little animal, but the big foot was unexpected. Funny. I missed a couple of the better ones. 5.- Lastly- the controversal Pitt TD. Two buddies of mine said no way, but the nose of the ball broke the plain. Oh yeah- to me, the 2nd half was boring. Alot of offense, sure- but by only one team. That's all folks!

Well...being born in Washington, I am a huge Seahawks fan. It was very dissappointing to see them lose, but I'm not going to blame the refs. I think we did outplay Pittsburgh. We had more yardage, more time of possession, more turnovers, etc...but we did lack the big plays that Pittsburgh had. They called great plays at the right time. Bad calls do happen, but that's like every game. Maybe in the future, the league will allow a coach to challenge a penalty.

The summary is, though, the Seahawks have made a huge impact for Washington and I'm proud they made it as far as they did. Of course a win would have been better, but they finally made a statement that we can play with the best of them. Hopefully we keep most of our players and everyone stays healthy next year because there's a good chance we will be another contender.

I thought it was hilarious about the theft deterrent cell phone commercial. When the dude just chucked it at the guy in the locker room. Twice. That was hilarious.

Oh yeah, and the airplane one "don't judge too quickly"...lol.

I think Ward deserved the MVP. He had as many yards recieving (123 yds) as Ben had throwing. He also had an 18 yard rush on an end around. Great throw by Randle El on the run.... Prettiest pass of the day. El also was hauling butt to make the play after Ben's INT too. Parker's speed on that record run wasn't too shabby either.

As far as the other stuff:

Ben was in for the TD. I've seen a couple of still shots of it and he got the ball over the line, TD stands.

O.P.I. in the end zone: This was so blatent that Hope had to hop backwards to keep his balance... Good Call.

Kicking a pylon on the goal line doesn't mean you're in bounds. BOTH feet have to come down in bounds... Good Call.

Hasselbeck play on the INT return was a good tackle and there should have been no flag.... Bad Call. However, on the other INT Ben was blocked in the back... No Call. To me that one is a wash.

The holding call. Was Haggans held...Yes, but I've seen worse holding not called and less holding called..... Flip a coin on this one, it's completely subjective. Of course the play when Haggans was tackled was ABSOLUTELY holding.

The Hawks moved the ball well, but fell short when it mattered most. 5 of 17, 3rd down conversions is not very impressive.

Steelers came out extremely tight. Ben looked completely unnerved, and it showed. Ben was like a stew of good throws, bad throws, huge plays, and big mistakes. Did Joey Porter get inside Jeromy Stevens head? Who can say, but he dropped every pass when he was in traffic. Big plays made the difference in this one.

The Refs played no role in the outcome of the game. The Hawks played their guts out and just couldn't get it done. I have nothing but respect for them. I've completely lost all respect for Holmgren anymore though. The Steelers certainly didn't play their best game. The Seahawks had better stats, but theirs only one stat that really matters:

21 to 10

So congrats to the five time World Champion Pittsbugh Steelers.

The magic fridge comercial was my favorite for sure.

I think I might have still been legally drunk when I woke up Monday morning...hehehehe.
